My 65 Impala was bought in 1966 by my grandmother, she really wanted a new 66 but the sales person convinced her to buy the 65.
had a 327/Powerglide, dual exhaust, and AirConditioning.
The car was driven by a sales man and only had about 15 thousand miles on it, so my grandma bought it and drove it home, the car got regular maintence(oil changed, tire rotations etc.). My grandmaw and grandpaw loved this car, they never had any trouble out of it, they even drove the car to florida! which is about 12 hours from there house in Memphis,TN.
In the early 80's my grandpa passed away, and he was the one that took the most care of the car.
Well my grandmas daugter(now my mom) met a guy(now my dad) across the street from her house that had a couple of hotrods, and when they met and got married , he took over the maintence on the car.
A few years ago in 1993 , my dad took out the 327 because it started using oil and wouldnt go through inspection, and dropped in a stock 350.
So my grandmaw drove it for a few more years and every year is got harder and harder to go through inspection, so they put antique tags on.
Last year my grandmaw gave me the car to me to have something to drive when i turned 16 in april 2001.
I had a car (1970 GTX 440 which i gave to my dad) but it didnt run, so when i got the Impala i started souping it up.
First me and my dad added a set of 15x7 & 15x8 ralley wheels ,then headers and 2 1/2in. turbo mufflers, then a comp 280 cam, edelbrock intake, holley carb, k& n air filter, air shocks to raise the back end up, and then we added my favorite thing, the 4 1/2in. Cowl Induction hood.
Me and my dad are still not through with the car because it needs a new transmission, becuase the powerglide only has 2 gears and drinks alot of gas.
We are hoping to find a 200-R4 because it has overdrive, and will get better gas mileage!
